Corry Station is part of Naval Air Station Pensacola, located in Florida, and served as a training facility for naval aviators during World War II, the Korean War, and the Cold War. In 1960, aviation training was ceased, and Corry Station became a technical training facility.
PFAS were found in the groundwater of Corry Station due to the use of AFFF, a class B firefighting foam containing high levels of the forever chemicals. According to the Environmental Working Group, the PFOS levels measured at Corry Station in the groundwater are 2,900 ppt, while in the drinking water, 6.5 ppt. Another type of PFAS measured is PFOA at 130 ppt in the groundwater and 15 ppt in the drinking water. Both PFAS subtypes were deemed carcinogenic to humans by IARC.
